Testing the Waters
Mixed media on canvas
60" x 48"
Long strands of color sweep down at an angle, as though someone dipped a toe in and then dove straight in. Pale butter yellow and teal lead the way, followed by red, tangerine, navy, violet and a bold cobalt that thickens as it falls, finally pooling in the lower corner in a glossy, pearly puddle. The ground is a grid of soft white and warm wood-toned planes, and each pour crosses the seams without hesitation, splitting into fine drips and spatters as it goes. A cloud of coral spray blooms beside the cobalt pool. Mandie poured in long, confident sweeps and let the paint find its own speed. It is a painting about courage, curiosity and the joy of taking the plunge.
Grand and dynamic, it deserves a wall of its own in a spacious living room or above a long sofa. Navy upholstery, cobalt accents and warm oak floors answer its sweeping strands, and generous space around it lets the bold diagonals breathe.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
