Through the Breaking
Mixed media on canvas
8" x 8"
Coral red and mint turquoise sweep across the canvas in fast, slanting strokes, layered so thick they ridge and sparkle with fine glittering grit. Then the surface opens. Long, leaf-shaped slits cut through the painting, curling back to reveal deep black space and a glimpse of the wooden frame behind. The openings radiate like petals or flames, their edges lifted and alive. Mandie worked the paint with energy and then dared to break through it, turning an act of rupture into something graceful. The piece holds both pain and release in a single small square, and what comes through the openings feels like light finding its way in.
Bold for its size, this piece wants a spot with some personality: a home office shelf, an entry console or a gallery wall mixing old and new. Its coral and mint pop against dark charcoal walls, and the glinting surface comes alive under a focused lamp.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
