Torn Between
Mixed media on canvas
24" x 24"
The square is split into four, and each quarter pulls in its own direction. Two corners are quiet and wood-toned, softly washed and almost bare. The other two are electric: deep cobalt sprayed with white mist and crossed by splayed pours of red, orange and yellow that reach outward like fingers. A broad band of lime green cuts diagonally across the whole composition, trying to tie the halves together. The paint is glossy and bubbled where it pooled, and the seams between panels stay visible, honest and slightly uneven. Mandie layered and poured each section, then let the bold diagonal emerge to bridge them. It captures the feeling of being pulled two ways and choosing to hold both.
Who says a painting has to choose a side? This one makes a striking conversation piece in an office, an entry or a living room. Its wood toned quarters echo oak or walnut furniture, while an uncluttered wall gives the electric corners room to push and pull.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
