Tremolo
Mixed media on panel
14" x 11"
Fern fronds unfurl through a misty, sea-blue haze, their raised, ridged lines arching across the panel in graceful curves. To the left, a curtain of fine vertical strokes falls like rain or tall grass, while soft clouds of turquoise, cobalt and pale green drift behind everything. A warm yellow glow rests at the top like sunlight finding its way through a canopy. The surface is wonderfully tactile: thick paint combed and pressed into grooves, then misted with fine spray that settles into every crevice. Mandie worked by feel, layering and scraping and letting each pass reveal something new. The whole piece seems to quiver gently, alive with the hum of a hidden garden.
Botanical and airy, it feels perfectly placed in a sunroom, a bathroom with a skylight or a bedroom filled with plants. Its sea blues and greens pair naturally with ferns, rattan and stoneware, and they sit beautifully beside green tile or pale aqua walls.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
