Troubled Waters
Mixed media on panel
24" x 6"
Violet, black and slate swirl into a storm at the top of this panel, pressing against a vivid blaze of red. Below, the turbulence continues: a dark vertical stroke splits the space, purple and moss green churn on the left, and on the right, scarlet and orange spill and splash in uneven drops. Small beads of blue and orange scatter across the pale ground like debris on rough water. Mandie poured quickly and let the colors crash, bleed and marble as they collided, accepting every unexpected turn. It is restless and honest, yet the brightness never drowns, holding firm in the middle of the storm.
Strong and dramatic, it suits a study, a den or a dark-walled entry where it can command attention. The violet, red and moss green look rich against charcoal or aubergine paint, with leather, iron and aged wood completing the mood.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
