What Winter Keeps
Mixed media on panel
24" x 12"
Frost has drawn its own garden on the glass. Thick, creamy white strokes sweep upward in fronds and feathered leaves, crowding the panel like ferns frozen mid-gesture, while deep blues and teal glint through every gap beneath. Here and there a blush of rose peeks out, a small, warm secret held inside the cold. The white sits heavy and sculptural, ridged and scraped so the light skims across it, and in the upper corners a fine mist of blue spray softens the edges. Mandie built this surface with fast, generous gestures and let the layers below decide what would show. It is a winter painting with a living heart, quiet, bright and full of promise.
Cool and quietly luminous, this tall panel brings a breath of winter light to a bedroom or powder room. Try it against pale blue-gray or soft white plaster, with brushed nickel, crisp bedding and a sprig of eucalyptus nearby. In a north-facing room, its frosted whites take on a gentle silver glow.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
