Words I Never Sent
Mixed media on panel
11" x 14"
Between two bright yellow lines, like the margins of a page, rows of dark marks gather in silence. Heavy black shapes sit in the middle of the panel, blotted and smeared like sentences crossed out again and again. Above and below them, thinner lines of maroon, rust and orange run in dotted, hesitant rhythms, some breaking off before they reach the end. Small red splashes fall near the bottom edge like a few last words that slipped out anyway. Mandie poured and dripped each line, letting some spread into blots and others thin to a thread. The painting holds everything we feel but never say, and there is something freeing in finally seeing it laid out in the light.
A writer's study or a modern home office is the natural setting for this graphic, introspective panel. Its black marks and yellow margins look sharp against pale walls, with black frames, a vintage typewriter or a stack of journals nearby.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
