A Passing Sadness
Mixed media and resin on panel
14" x 11"
A dark, ragged form of deep navy crosses the center of a sunlit field, like a cloud passing over a bright afternoon. Its edges are rough and feathered, and streaks of gold and amber show through where the paint has been dragged thin. All around, the background is warm and luminous: buttery yellow, soft peach and a hint of lime, with pale circles drifting through like bokeh or light seen through tears. A glossy layer of resin seals it all, giving the colors a glassy depth. Mandie let the dark mark land in a single gesture and surrounded it with glow. The sorrow is real, but the light around it is stronger, and it will pass.
Honest and consoling, A Passing Sadness suits a quiet room where you can sit with it: a study, a reading nook, a bedroom corner. Navy and warm gold accents, a soft wool throw, and afternoon light give it a gentle, hopeful setting.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
