Mixed media on panel
48" x 36" x 2.5"
A dark shape of aubergine and ink pours down the center of a gray and taupe panel, seeming to meet its own reflection halfway, like a figure leaning over still water. Splashes of white and silver leap from its edges, catching the light against the muted ground, while a single thin stream of violet runs through the middle. Behind it, long drips of charcoal and soft gray fall in rows, like rain on a window or the shadow of reeds. The surface is glossy and fluid, the pours settling into pools and fine bubbles. Mandie let the forms find their own mirror, a surprise that only appeared as the paint moved. Quietly searching, it reads like a question asked in the dark and waiting gently for an answer.
Some paintings ask you to pause on your way in, and this is one. Give it a study, a bedroom or a gallery-like entry with taupe or gray walls, aubergine velvet and a dark wood bench, and soft side light will catch its silver splashes.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
