Beautiful Ruins
Mixed media on canvas
48" x 30"
Silver, lavender and pale gold are built up in heavy, glinting strokes, forming tall columns and stacked rectangles like the walls and windows of an old building at sunset. Flashes of rust and plum appear in the gaps, and dark specks scatter across the surface like weathered stone. Some areas are smooth and almost mirror bright, others dragged and broken, so the whole canvas seems to shimmer between strength and decay. Mandie worked with thick paint and bold, repeated gestures, then let the layers crack and catch the light. It is a painting about what remains after time has done its work, and how much beauty survives.
Glamorous yet worn, its glinting columns of silver and gold suit a candlelit dining room or a living room with a plum velvet sofa. Aged brass, antique mirrors and lavender flowers pick up its sunset palette as the evening light fades.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
