Breaking Through
Mixed media on panel
24" x 24"
A smoky gray sky hangs heavy over most of the panel, soft and clouded. Then, cutting diagonally through it, a bright white wedge opens like a break in the weather, and along its lower edge a surge of color pushes upward: black and deep cobalt fingers reaching outward, crimson and orange blooming in rich, textured clusters, a flash of lemon and a spark of pale sky blue near the top. The poured paint is thick and glossy, crusted in places and dripping in long, dark tendrils toward the corner. Mandie poured with force and let the colors spread and splinter on their own. The energy is unmistakable, a determined push from shadow into open light.
Hope is a good thing to see every day, and this painting offers it gently. Place it in an entry, a bedroom or a home office, with smoky gray walls to echo its clouded sky and fresh flowers or bright textiles to pick up the color breaking through.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
