Cadenza
Mixed media on panel
24" x 24"
Black and gold burst across a pale gray field in a single, sweeping flourish, like the final solo before the music resolves. Marbled pours of honey, bronze and ink swirl together into one great form, while slender drips of black, gold and pearl trail downward in delicate lines. A small square of chocolate brown and a curve of bright white sit inside the motion like accents in a phrase. The poured surface is glossy and full of tiny cells and veins where the colors mingled on their own. Mandie tipped the panel and let the paint perform, catching the drama just as it reached its peak. It is bold, elegant and thrilling to stand before.
A grand piano, a marble topped table, brass sconces: this canvas thrives among things with presence. Its black and gold flourish suits a formal living room, a music room or a dining space where people gather, and soft gray walls give it the stage it deserves.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
