Carried Away I
Mixed media on canvas
48" x 30"
Everything leans in the same direction, as if a current has swept through and taken the colors with it. Long ribbons of red, tangerine, golden yellow, turquoise, sky blue and deep navy stream diagonally across a stepped arrangement of planes, some pale and smooth, some warm and wood-toned. Where the paint crosses an edge it pools, catches and spills over, leaving glossy tangles of color in its wake. Near the lower corner, the streams gather into a small eddy of red, teal and blue before rushing on. Mandie poured with sweeping motions and let the flow carry across every seam, delighting in where it chose to collect. It feels exhilarating, the thrill of surrendering to something larger and simply going along.
Hang it in an open-plan space where you can see it from across the room, or above a long living room sofa. Its sweeping, dynamic movement fills a large wall, and navy, rust and turquoise accents tie everything together.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
