Carried Away II
Mixed media on canvas
48" x 30"
A tide of color sweeps from the upper left toward the far corner, cobalt, navy and turquoise carrying smaller currents of red, lemon and peach along with them. The ground beneath is a warm, sandy cream, built from overlapping planes, and wherever the paint reaches an edge it hesitates, drips in small curtains and then moves on. Sky blue threads run along the margins like spray at the edge of a wave. The surface is glossy and alive, beaded with tiny bubbles where the pours thinned out. Mandie let the paint travel freely across each step and seam, and those pauses became some of its loveliest moments. It is a painting about letting go and being gently, gladly taken somewhere new.
Coastal in feeling, its blue tide over sandy cream suits a beach house, a sunroom or a living room filled with ocean light. Driftwood, jute, slipcovered seating and a few coral accents carry its palette, and it pairs naturally with its companion, Carried Away I.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
