Mixed media on canvas
20" x 20"
Layers of chalky white and buttery cream build up into a rugged, almost sculptural surface, and through it open several dark slits, like doorways or eyes looking out from somewhere deeper. A wash of bright lemon yellow sweeps across the top, dripping and splashing toward the right edge in flecks of orange. Fine cracks wander across the pale ground, and the thick paste ridges and folds where it was spread and pressed. Mandie built the surface slowly, then opened it up, letting the darkness show through in places she discovered along the way. The work feels like standing at a crossroads, with light above and many quiet paths waiting below.
In a minimalist interior, this sculptural surface becomes the main event. Travertine, plaster, pale oak and a few black accents suit its chalky whites and dark openings, whether in a modern entry, a quiet study or an open living room.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
