First Love I
Mixed media on panel
12" x 12"
Like a landscape seen through rose colored glasses, the panel unfolds in soft, stacked layers. A pale blue sky rests over a band of deep navy, its surface laced with delicate cells and a curling wave. Below, butter yellow gives way to a wide field of glowing pink, crossed by a ribbon of red studded with tiny crusted beads. Pale silver islands float through the colors like clouds or smooth stones, and near the bottom bright lime and coral swirl together in marbled pools. Mandie poured each layer and let them flow, crack and open by chance. Everything feels new and a little giddy, sweet and wide eyed, the way the world looks when your heart first opens.
A dresser top, a writing desk or a small cluster on a bedroom wall would all suit this tender panel. Its rose tinted layers and navy band feel lovely with blush or soft blue walls, and it makes a natural group with the other First Love pieces.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
