First Love II
Mixed media on panel
12" x 12"
Warm layers of color drift across the panel like a sunset seen over water. At the top, sky blue and a velvety navy hold a thin streak of lime; then butter yellow, tangerine and a vivid pink pile softly one on another. A rich red band runs through the middle, glossy and bubbled, and below it the pinks and corals swirl around a small, gleaming pool of scarlet. Gaps of pale gray open between the bands like light slipping through. At the base, navy and green return to close the scene. Mandie poured with abandon and let the colors overlap and part as they wished. It glows with the rosy, nervous happiness of falling for someone.
Hung beside its First Love companions, this small panel completes a gentle series; on its own, it brings a warm sunset glow to a bedroom or a desk. Soft peach and blue textiles, warm wood and a glowing bedside lamp keep its mood intimate.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
