Gentle Days IX
Mixed media on panel
24" x 6"
Picture a lazy afternoon stretched out in color. On the left, a royal blue and a near-black line wander down side by side, the dark one knotted with little beads like a string of river stones, a fine scatter of blue specks drifting beside them. Across a band of open white, green, yellow, orange and red travel together in a close, friendly bundle, crossing and touching as they fall. The paint is thick and raised, gleaming wherever the light lands. Mandie poured from the top and let each color stretch and gather as it pleased, welcoming every wobble. The painting feels relaxed and warm, like time spent with people who know you well.
Relaxed and unhurried, it is ideal for a guest room, a reading corner or a slim wall near a favorite armchair. The royal blue and dark beaded line look handsome with oak, navy and cream textiles and a bowl of smooth river stones.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
