Heart of the River
Mixed media on panel
30" x 30" x 2.5"
Columns of blue stand guard on either side, navy, sky and cobalt, like the steady banks of a river flowing past. Moving inward, green and golden yellow ripple toward the center, where something warm and alive is held: a rounded form of red and orange, its lower half laced with magenta and open, rib-like loops. Yellow splashes fly outward from it in quick, bright bursts, full of tiny bubbles in the glossy paint. Behind it all, a soft blue mist settles over the white ground. Mandie poured the central shape and let it spread on its own, and it arrived feeling like a heartbeat. The painting glows with tenderness, a quiet, beating warmth protected by the cool water around it.
Deep navy or ocean blue walls give this canvas a riverbank of its own. Hang it above a bed or a loveseat, then bring in warm notes of cognac leather, brass and a terracotta vase to answer the glowing red form held at its heart.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
