Hush III
Mixed media on panel
24" x 6"
Down the center, a deep river of indigo and violet winds its way through banks of gold and cream. Its edges are soft and feathered, curling into small eddies where it meets the warmer tones on either side. Near the top, glinting bubbles cling to the surface like dew, while the gold below is broken and sandy, almost like a shoreline seen from above. Mandie poured these layers and tilted the panel slowly, watching the dark color carve its own route through the light. The piece carries a velvet calm, gentle enough to soothe and deep enough to hold a secret.
Think of a stairwell, the edge of a doorway, or a slim wall in a bedroom, the spots that need just a whisper of color. Its indigo river looks lovely against warm plaster, and as a trio with Hush I and II it forms a gentle, flowing sequence.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
