Pure Delight
Mixed media on panel
24" x 24"
There is a giddy lightness to this panel, as if laughter had been given a shape. A wide arc of indigo and violet sweeps across the upper half, its edges frothy and lace-like, while below it a burst of orange and scarlet spreads in a textured, cellular bloom. A band of green ties the two together, and sprayed glows of sunshine yellow warm the corners of a deep teal ground. Along the right side, a column of pale turquoise loops spirals upward like a ribbon caught in the wind. Mandie trailed and poured these forms freely, letting each line coil and overlap however it liked. The whole piece radiates uncomplicated happiness.
There is a giddy lift to this painting that makes it a happy fit for a playroom, a kitchen, or a family room. Lilac or indigo accents, soft gray walls, and a few cheerful objects echo its frothy arc of color and keep the mood light.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
