Spinning
Mixed media on panel
36" x 36"
Rings of sky blue, lime, butter yellow and deep navy whirl around a fiery red core, like a planet caught mid-turn or a dancer twirling so fast the world blurs. The red rises through the center in a thick, marbled column, crusted in places where the pour cracked as it dried. Behind the motion, a curtain of blue drips falls from the top edge, interrupted by soft glowing squares of pink and apricot. Flecks and splashes spin off the outer orbit, carrying the energy right to the edges. Mandie worked in sweeping circles and let momentum do the rest, so each ring landed a little off course. The whole piece feels exhilarating, dizzy and full of delight.
Full of motion, it works wonderfully in a lively family room, a creative studio or above a desk where you want a jolt of inspiration. Navy upholstery, a lime green planter and warm oak furniture let its bright rings and fiery center stand out.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
