Standing Tall
Mixed media on panel
24" x 12"
A figure rises from a dark, rooted base, broad-shouldered in cobalt blue and flecked with bursts of orange like sparks caught in its coat. Below, deep navy and charcoal pool into lacy gray cells, heavy and grounded, while the pale field around it glows with faint mists of pink, mint and lilac. A few tiny dots of red and white appear near its heart, small and bright. Mandie poured the shape and let it find its own posture, spreading and settling until it stood upright almost of its own will. There is quiet courage here: the dark has not gone, but the blue keeps reaching upward anyway.
Strong and confident, it brings presence to a narrow wall in a study, an office or on a stair landing. Cobalt and orange pop against warm white or charcoal walls, and walnut, leather and brass emphasize its sense of quiet strength.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
